Iran Reports Shooting Down US Attack Drones Near Hormuz Strait
The drones were reportedly detected, tracked and brought down over Bandar Khamir by air defense units belonging to the Imam Sajjad Corps, according to a statement issued by the IRGC's Hormozgan public relations office.
Washington had not immediately responded to Tehran's claim.
The reported incident comes amid persistent military tensions between Iran and the United States following the US-Israeli war against Iran, which began on Feb. 28.
Since the conflict erupted, US forces have conducted strikes against Iranian military facilities, targeting air defense systems and other strategic infrastructure.
The IRGC, which maintains separate ground, naval and aerospace forces alongside Iran's regular armed forces, has been a central component of Tehran's military response to US and Israeli operations.
Iranian forces have also stepped up air defense activities in the country's southern regions, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, where Tehran has tightened restrictions on maritime movement.
