Citing shipping brokers and data from Lloyd’s List Intelligence, reports said the tanker was operating in a maritime zone often associated with covert ship-to-ship oil transfers.
The development comes amid continued regional instability following earlier military strikes involving the United States and Israel against Iran in late February, according to reports. The escalation was followed by retaliatory actions from Tehran targeting Israeli territory and US-aligned partners in the Gulf, including the United Arab Emirates, as well as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire was later introduced on April 8 through mediation efforts led by Pakistan, though subsequent negotiations held in Islamabad did not result in a lasting agreement. US President Donald Trump later extended the truce indefinitely, according to reports.
