Putin, Xi Seal 20 Agreements in Beijing

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping sealed 20 wide-ranging agreements in Beijing on Wednesday, covering economy, energy, transport, and international cooperation — cementing what both leaders are positioning as a counterweight to Western dominance.

The two heads of state adopted a joint statement on further strengthening their bilateral partnership, alongside a declaration calling for the creation of a multipolar world order and a new framework for international relations.

Speaking at a post-summit news conference, Putin said Moscow and Beijing had constructed a resilient bilateral trade system, insulated from external pressure and global market turbulence. He credited the shift to national currencies as central to that stability.

"The coordinated steps taken by Russia and China to shift settlements between them, between our countries as a whole, to national currencies have been of great significance. As a result, virtually all Russian-Chinese export-import operations are being carried out in rubles and yuan," he said.

Putin also pledged uninterrupted Russian oil and gas supplies to China, and confirmed that nuclear corporation Rosatom is advancing construction of new power units at Chinese nuclear plants as part of expanding energy cooperation between the two nations.

The Russian president further described the Russia-China partnership as a stabilizing factor in international affairs, and highlighted what he called strong returns from the bilateral visa-free regime.

"In 2025, more than 2 million Russians arrived in the People's Republic of China. Over one million Chinese citizens visited Russia," he said.
