Israel Moves to Demolish Shops in Al-Eizariya Over Settlement Project

(MENAFN) Israeli authorities have instructed the demolition of nearly 50 commercial facilities in the Palestinian town of Al-Eizariya, located southeast of East Jerusalem, in a move linked by Palestinian officials to preparations for a disputed settlement project.

According to the Jerusalem Governorate, business owners in the Al-Mashtal area at the town’s main entrance were verbally notified that around 50 shops and commercial units must be evacuated before Sunday morning.

The orders are tied to demolition notices originally issued in August 2025, with authorities warning that if the owners fail to comply within the given deadline, the structures and their contents will be removed.

Palestinian officials said legal appeals have already been submitted to an Israeli court, and hearings are expected to take place later this month.

Local authorities in the governorate and municipality have connected the planned demolitions to the so-called “E1” settlement project, which aims to link the Maale Adumim settlement bloc with East Jerusalem.

The plan has long been a source of controversy, with critics warning it could significantly reshape territorial continuity in the area.
