Syria UN Envoy Accuses Israel of Destabilization, Provocations
Speaking during an open debate at the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, Syrian envoy Ibrahim Olabi said international responses to Syria’s recent stabilization efforts have generally been positive, but argued that progress is being undermined by what he described as Israeli actions in southern Syria.
He said these developments are, in his view, obstructing Syria’s recovery efforts and escalating tensions on the ground.
“Israeli occupation forces are seeking every possible means to provoke the Syrian people,” he said.
Despite his criticism, Olabi acknowledged that the wider regional situation has shown some signs of improvement in recent weeks, though he warned that the conflict remains unresolved and vulnerable to renewed escalation.
“Although the situation in the region today has improved in recent weeks, the final settlement of the conflict has not yet been achieved, and the situation remains vulnerable to renewed deterioration,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation for countries involved in mediation efforts aimed at reducing tensions and supporting regional stability, naming several states he said have played constructive roles, including Pakistan, Gulf Arab countries, Egypt, and Türkiye.
