Trump Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino Announces Retirement
Bovino told media outlets that he intends to retire at the end of March, although he has not yet submitted the necessary paperwork.
During his tenure, Bovino oversaw operations in Democratic-led cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and Minneapolis, where federal agents were involved in fatal shootings of two US citizens. He was removed from his role in Minnesota shortly after the January deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti sparked bipartisan condemnation and widespread protests.
The shake-up in the Department of Homeland Security this month, which included replacing Secretary Kristi Noem, reflects the administration’s push to carry out Trump’s election promise of mass deportations, as stated by reports.
Bovino described his career as deeply rewarding, saying, “The greatest honour of my entire life was to work alongside Border Patrol agents on the border and in the interior of the United States in some of the most challenging conditions the agency has ever faced.” He added, “Watching agents giving it their all in some of the most dangerous of environments we have ever faced was humbling.” His retirement marks the end of nearly 30 years in immigration enforcement.
A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson confirmed that Bovino “has not submitted any retirement paperwork,” as stated by reports.
