Pakistan Carries Out Overnight Airstrikes Targeted Afghan Military Sites

(MENAFN) Pakistan stated Tuesday that it conducted precision airstrikes overnight targeting Afghan military installations in Kabul and Nangarhar province, rejecting Afghan claims that a drug rehabilitation facility was hit, according to reports.

Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the strikes destroyed technical support infrastructure and ammunition storage facilities at two locations in Kabul. “The visible secondary detonations after the strikes clearly indicate the presence of large ammunition depots,” he wrote on social media, sharing video footage of the aftermath.

“In Nangarhar, Pakistan’s armed forces also struck four Afghan Taliban military sites used to support terrorism, destroying associated logistics, ammunition and technical infrastructure,” Tarar added. He emphasized that all targets were chosen with precision and were limited to infrastructure allegedly used by Afghan authorities to support militants operating against Pakistan.

Tarar dismissed Afghan claims that a drug rehabilitation center had been hit, calling the reports “false” and accusing the Afghan administration of spreading propaganda to deflect from its alleged role in supporting militancy in the region.

Earlier, Afghan Deputy Spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat had said that at least 400 people were killed and around 250 injured in what he described as a Pakistani airstrike on a Kabul drug rehabilitation facility, warning that the death toll could rise due to extensive destruction.

Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have deteriorated after border tensions escalated last month, resulting in casualties and property damage. Since late February, cross-border clashes have killed 107 people on both sides, including 13 soldiers and five civilians in Pakistan, with one soldier still reported missing, as stated by reports.
