Syria Refutes Extended SDF Ceasefire Claims

(MENAFN) Syria's Foreign Ministry on Saturday refuted media claims suggesting the ceasefire deadline extended to the SDF had been prolonged beyond its original timeframe.

A Syrian news agency cited an unidentified ministry source stating: "There is no truth to what is being circulated regarding the extension of the deadline with the SDF."

The ministry announced Tuesday it was suspending military operations throughout all army divisions, declaring the pause would last four days from issuance, consistent with arrangements reached between the Syrian state and the SDF.

On January 18, the Syrian government and the SDF finalized an accord mandating a ceasefire and absorbing the faction's personnel and structures into the Syrian governmental framework. Nevertheless, the SDF persisted in conducting provocations and infractions the Syrian government characterized as a "dangerous escalation."

The compact followed a military campaign the Syrian Army initiated days prior, through which it reclaimed substantial territories across eastern and northeastern Syria following repeated SDF breaches of agreements signed with the government approximately 10 months earlier and its inability to fulfill their terms.

Last March, the Syrian presidency proclaimed an agreement facilitating the SDF's incorporation into state institutions, reaffirming the nation's territorial integrity and rejecting any partition attempts.
