Israeli Police Kill Palestinian Man in Negev

(MENAFN) Israeli police fatally shot a Palestinian resident of the Bedouin community of Al-Tarabin in the Negev during the early morning hours Sunday, according to local media outlets.

Al-Tarabin is an unrecognized Palestinian Bedouin settlement situated within the Negev Desert in southern Israel.

A leading daily newspaper reported that a specialized police squad alongside "National Guard" troops stormed the village to apprehend Mohammed Hussein Tarabin over accusations linking him to property vandalism targeting nearby Israeli settlements.

The National Guard represents a security apparatus established by far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and faces criticism from Israeli opposition figures who characterize it as a militia operating under his personal command.

Tarabin's relatives told the newspaper that officers opened fire on their family member "without cause."

"He is an ordinary man with seven children. There was no need to kill him," the family said.

"For them (the police), this is a great achievement to please Ben-Gvir, who dances on Arab blood. The situation is dangerous, the behavior of the police is unacceptable, and they must leave the area or they will bear responsibility for anything that happens."

Ben-Gvir responded via US social media platform X, expressing support for law enforcement actions in Al-Tarabin village and characterizing "Mohammed Tarabin" as a "dangerous criminal."

The Negev Bedouin Leadership issued a strong denunciation of the fatal shooting and demanded Ben-Gvir's removal from office.

The organization pressed for a comprehensive probe into the killing's circumstances and prosecution of those accountable.
