Turkish president condoles with Libyan PM over deadly plane crash
During the call with Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered condolences and expressed grief over the incident. As conveyed in an official statement, Erdogan “expressed his sorrow and condolences over the loss of life in the plane crash carrying Libya’s Chief of Staff, Gen. Mohammed Ali Al-Haddad, and those accompanying him,” said Burhanettin Duran.
Earlier, Turkish authorities confirmed that the remains of a Falcon 50 business jet were located by gendarmerie units roughly two kilometers south of the Kesikkavak area in Ankara’s Haymana district. The aircraft had departed from Ankara’s Esenboga Airport and was en route to Tripoli when it went down, as stated by officials.
Authorities also confirmed that both the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder were retrieved in the early hours of Wednesday. Officials noted that technical analysis of the recovered devices is now underway to establish the cause of the crash.
In response to the fatalities, Libya’s Government of National Unity announced a three-day period of national mourning.
