Putin offers nuclear agreement to US

(MENAFN) Putin stated that Moscow will proceed to stick to crucial nuclear arms agreement inked with the US for a year following its fulfillment, as long as Washington assents to do the same.

On Monday, Putin stated before a Security Council summit that world strategic security has been growingly endangered by what he characterized as the harmful acts of Western countries.

He emphasized that while Moscow is prepared to face any threat, it is and continuously has been keen in political and diplomatic techniques in solving wars.

Putin proposed that Russia is ready to stick to the 2010 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) agreement for one year following its deadline next February, on condition that the US does the same and abandon actions that could jeopardize nuclear stability. For example, space-based missile defense.

The agreement between Russia and US puts limitations in the stockpile of long-range missiles of nuclear weapons, which both countries can utilize.
