France, Germany, UK Denounce Israeli Airstrikes on Qatar
In a joint statement issued Friday, the three nations expressed concern that the September 9 attacks could derail crucial mediation efforts to secure the release of Israeli hostages and negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza.
“We, the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, condemn Israel’s strikes in Doha on 9 September, which violate Qatar’s sovereignty and risk further escalation in the region,” the statement read.
The ministers highlighted the grave threat these actions pose to ongoing peace negotiations, urging all parties to intensify their efforts to reach a swift ceasefire.
They also reaffirmed their support for Qatar, acknowledging the Gulf nation's essential role in mediating the conflict, alongside Egypt and the United States.
“We call for the parties to exercise restraint and seize the opportunity for peace,” the statement emphasized.
In addition, the three countries condemned Israeli military operations in Gaza City, noting the devastating toll on civilians, with widespread displacement, deaths, and the destruction of vital infrastructure.
The ministers urged the United Nations and humanitarian groups to be granted full, safe access to deliver aid across Gaza.
While reiterating their condemnation of Hamas, the ministers also called for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, the disarmament of the militant group, and its permanent exclusion from governance in Gaza.
Their statement concluded by stressing that the primary goal must remain the establishment of a lasting ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the provision of substantial humanitarian assistance to avert famine in Gaza.
