8 Indian Students Hospitalized After Mates Glue Their Eyes Shut

(MENAFN) Eight schoolchildren from a hostel in eastern India’s Odisha state were rushed to the hospital after their classmates applied instant adhesive to their eyes while they slept, according to local media reports on Monday.

The disturbing act occurred late Friday at a residential school in Salaguda, located in the Kandhamal district—approximately 248 kilometers west of the state capital, Bhubaneswar.

Local outlets described harrowing scenes as the affected students, unable to open their eyes, wept in pain while medical staff worked to delicately unseal their eyelids.

a New Delhi-based television news channel reported: "Doctors have said the adhesive had caused significant eye damage, but timely medical attention could prevent a permanent loss of vision for the children."

In response to the incident, authorities have launched a high-level investigation.

The school’s headmaster has been suspended for “negligence of duty,” pending the outcome of the probe.
