Egypt, Tunisia Hold Talks on Boosting Bilateral Cooperation
The meeting comes as both nations gear up for the 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee, set to open Thursday in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital. The gathering aims to bolster economic integration and expand collaboration, particularly in trade and investment.
Both leaders emphasized “the importance of continuing to develop joint cooperation in various fields, especially with the 18th session of the Joint Higher Committee being held in Cairo, serving as a strategic platform for deepening cooperation and exploring new prospects for integration, particularly in the trade and investment sectors,” the official statement said.
In a show of regional solidarity, Sisi and Zenzri highlighted the need to ramp up joint efforts “to confront the challenges facing the region and to work to resolve regional crises,” the statement added.
Discussions also touched on boosting private sector involvement across both countries, with an eye on executing joint development initiatives throughout Africa. The statement noted the significance of “strengthening the Egyptian and Tunisian presence within their regional surroundings.”
On Thursday, the Joint Higher Committee will convene its opening session, jointly led by the prime ministers of Egypt and Tunisia. The agenda includes critical sector talks via the Egyptian-Tunisian Business Council, covering areas like digital transformation, renewable energy, transportation, and agriculture, while exploring new private-sector investment channels.
