Japan to boost cooperation with India through sixty-eight billion dollars investment

(MENAFN) enhance economic cooperation between the two nations, according to reports.

The planned investments will target sectors including semiconductors, critical minerals, telecommunications, clean energy, pharmaceuticals, and advanced technologies. An official announcement is expected during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tokyo on August 29-30.

During the visit, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is expected to present detailed plans aimed at deepening bilateral economic ties. Japan aims to increase its investment in India through official development assistance, focusing on startups entering the Indian market. The Japan International Cooperation Agency has already extended yen loans to startups based in Hyderabad.

The new funding is anticipated to allow Japanese firms to expand their operations in India, particularly in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence sectors, while also employing Indian experts, according to the report.

The discussions between Modi and Ishiba are also set to include an exchange program for young researchers in artificial intelligence under the 'AI Cooperation Initiative' agreement. Japan anticipates a shortfall of up to 790,000 skilled workers in advanced technologies by 2030, while India currently produces roughly 1.5 million engineering graduates annually.
